From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Finland amounted to +5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+18.3% per year) and Denmark (+50.0% per year).

In value terms, Finland ($X) remains the key foreign market for wood chips and particles exports from Russia, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 3.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Finland stood at +3.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+31.8% per year) and Denmark (+53.2% per year).

Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, wood chips and particles imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, Germany (X cubic meters) constituted the largest wood chips and particles supplier to Russia, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, wood chips and particles imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X cubic meters), tenfold. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-3.7% per year) and Belarus (+85.2% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips and particles to Russia, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 30% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+8.3% per year) and Poland (-4.3% per year).
