For the fifth year in a row, Russia recorded growth in shipments abroad of glass fibre fabrics, which increased by 14% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, glass fibre fabrics exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted strong growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main destinations of glass fibre fabrics exports from Russia, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Belarus, Poland, Denmark, Austria, Uzbekistan and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +98.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for glass fibre fabrics exported from Russia were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), with a combined 55% share of total exports. Belarus, Poland, Denmark, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Denmark, with a CAGR of +119.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average glass fibre fabrics export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of glass fibre fabrics, when their volume decreased by -1.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +2.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre fabrics imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -6.9% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Russia, accounting for a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre fabrics imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belarus (X tons), sixfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +16.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-5.8% per year) and Ukraine (+2.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Russia, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 15% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +13.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-7.7% per year) and Ukraine (-1.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average glass fibre fabrics import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
