In value terms, aluminium alloy wire production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC
In 2022, the amount of aluminium alloy wire exported in SADC contracted to X tons, with a decrease of -10% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aluminium alloy wire exports reduced to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -23.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 55%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Tanzania was the largest exporter of aluminium alloy wire in SADC, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 58% of total exports in 2022. Zambia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by South Africa (X tons). All these countries together held near 37% share of total exports. Mozambique (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Tanzania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aluminium alloy wire exports, with a CAGR of +68.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zambia (+51.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (-5.8%) and Mozambique (-18.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tanzania and Zambia increased by +58 and +20 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest aluminium alloy wire supplying countries in SADC were Zambia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Tanzania ($X), with a combined 94% share of total exports.
Zambia, with a CAGR of +56.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Aluminium Alloy Wire Imports
Imports in SADC
In 2022, overseas purchases of aluminium alloy wire decreased by -13.9% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium alloy wire imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a moderate expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Tanzania represented the largest importer of aluminium alloy wire in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 63% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), committing a 35% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +19.7%).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium alloy wire in SADC, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.
In South Africa, aluminium alloy wire imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012-2022.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 106% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania amounted to $X per ton.
