The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 71%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium pipe fittings exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 155% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from South Africa (X tons), together finishing at 96% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aluminium tube or pipe fittings exports, with a CAGR of -11.1% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of South Africa (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest aluminium pipe fittings supplier in SADC.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -6.6%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, aluminium pipe fittings export price increased by +99.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 77%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to +5.1% per year.

Aluminium pipe fittings imports expanded rapidly to X tons in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium pipe fittings imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) was the key importer of aluminium tube or pipe fittings, constituting 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), together mixing up a 28% share of total imports. Comoros (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Comoros (+46.2%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+16.4%), Angola (+4.0%), Tanzania (+3.1%) and Mozambique (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Comoros emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +46.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Zambia (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+24 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4.5 p.p.) and Comoros (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Zambia saw its share reduced by -1.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium tube or pipe fittings in SADC, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 6.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to +6.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+11.0% per year) and Angola (-3.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 30%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Comoros ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
