Amino Resin Market Size in SADC

In 2022, shipments abroad of amino resins decreased by -7.5% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 573% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, amino resin exports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 238%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the largest exporter of amino resins, committing 78% of total exports. Mozambique (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Mauritius (7.2%). Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +20.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mauritius (+93.2%) and Mozambique (+21.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +93.2% from 2012-2022. Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of South Africa (+42 p.p.), Mauritius (+7.2 p.p.) and Mozambique (+6.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Tanzania (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest amino resin supplier in SADC, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 7.7% share.

In South Africa, amino resin exports increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (+77.2% per year) and Mozambique (+21.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC

In 2022, overseas purchases of amino resins decreased by -7.1% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, amino resin imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

South Africa was the main importer of amino resins in SADC, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 61% of total imports in 2022. Zambia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Angola (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 33% share of total imports. Mauritius (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +32.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mauritius (+50.4%), Zambia (+42.0%), Zimbabwe (+6.6%) and Angola (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +50.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Zambia and Mauritius increased by +49, +12 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported amino resins in SADC, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 5.3% share.

In South Africa, amino resin imports expanded at an average annual rate of +26.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-3.1% per year) and Zimbabwe (+0.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 37%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
