Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved anchovies exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 123%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X kg), making up a 6.7% share of total exports. Seychelles (X kg) and Namibia (X kg) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preserved anchovies exports from South Africa stood at -14.8%. Tanzania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Seychelles ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of anchovies (prepared or preserved) decreased by -16.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved anchovies imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 47% of total imports. Mauritius (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 31% share, followed by Seychelles (12%). Namibia (X kg) held a little share of total imports.
