Zimbabwe dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 98% of total exports in 2021. South Africa (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Zimbabwe was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony ores and concentrates exports, with a CAGR of +6.8% from 2012 to 2021. South Africa (-38.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Zimbabwe (+84 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -41.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X) emerged as the largest antimony ore and concentrate supplier in SADC, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 1.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Zimbabwe amounted to +21.1%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 36% against the previous year. Export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, antimony ore and concentrate export price increased by +110.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while South Africa totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (+13.4%).

Imports in SADC
In 2021, purchases abroad of antimony ores and concentrates was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports showed a strong increase. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, antimony ore and concentrate imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the one major importers of antimony ores and concentrates, namely Mozambique, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
Mozambique was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony ores and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +14.8% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mozambique increased by +18 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antimony ores and concentrates in SADC.
In Mozambique, antimony ore and concentrate imports increased at an average annual rate of +32.8% over the period from 2012-2021.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 78% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a strong expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Mozambique.
