Table Egg Market Size in SADC

The SADC table egg market rose slightly to $X in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table egg production rose significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In 2022, shipments abroad of table eggs was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, table egg exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the largest exporter of table eggs in SADC, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Swaziland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Zambia (X%). Namibia (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of table eggs. At the same time, Zambia (X%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Swaziland (X%) and Namibia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Zambia, South Africa and Democratic Republic of the Congo increased by X, X and X percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest table egg supplier in SADC, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Zambia, with a X% share.

In South Africa, table egg exports decreased by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Swaziland (X% per year) and Zambia (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of table eggs increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, table egg imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Angola represented the largest importer of table eggs in SADC, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Namibia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%). The following importers - Mozambique (X tons), Comoros (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Angola decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Comoros (X%), Namibia (X%), Mozambique (X%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Angola (X p.p.), Mozambique (X p.p.) and Tanzania (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Comoros, Namibia and Democratic Republic of the Congo saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Namibia ($X), Angola ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising X% of total imports. Mozambique, Comoros and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Tanzania, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
