In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest board, sheet, panel and tile faced with paper supplier in SADC, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at +4.0%.

In 2021, the amount of boards, sheets, panels, tiles and similar articles of plaster faced with paper imported in SADC soared to X square meters, growing by 40% against the year before. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Tanzania (X square meters) and Angola (X square meters) represented roughly 55% of total imports in 2021. South Africa (X square meters) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Zimbabwe (X square meters), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X square meters), Zambia (X square meters) and Mozambique (X square meters). All these countries together took near 35% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (with a CAGR of +28.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X), Angola ($X) and Zimbabwe ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 55% of total imports. Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Democratic Republic of the Congo lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +16.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per square meter in 2021, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per square meter), while Tanzania ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
