Tanzania was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bodies for motor vehicles for the transporting people exports, with a CAGR of +25.2% from 2012 to 2022. In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, declining by -60.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Tanzania totaled $X per unit.

In 2022, purchases abroad of bodies for motor vehicles for the transporting people increased by 97% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 941% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, transportation vehicle body imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 97%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa prevails in imports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X units), Botswana (X units) and Namibia (X units), together committing a 24% share of total imports. Tanzania (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bodies for motor vehicles for the transporting people imports, with a CAGR of +41.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (+23.7%), Botswana (+17.0%) and Tanzania (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Namibia (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+64 p.p.), Mozambique (+6.3 p.p.) and Botswana (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Namibia (-12.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Namibia ($X) and Botswana ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 76% share of total imports. Tanzania and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
Mozambique, with a CAGR of +25.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -37.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 510%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while Mozambique ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
