The volume of export peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, appliance part brush exports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X units, which was near 92% of total exports in 2022. Tanzania (X units), Namibia (X units) and Zambia (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to appliance part brush exports from South Africa stood at +3.0%. At the same time, Zambia (+44.1%), Namibia (+24.7%) and Tanzania (+18.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +44.1% from 2012-2022. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest appliance part brush supplier in SADC, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 2.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 1.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -1.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Zambia (+67.3% per year) and Namibia (+28.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, rising by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+16.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
In 2022, approx. X units of brushes constituting parts of appliances were imported in SADC; falling by -8% against the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, appliance part brush imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa dominates imports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Angola (X units), Mozambique (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Botswana (X units), together making up a 31% share of total imports. The following importers - Mauritius (X units) and Madagascar (X units) - each amounted to a 5.9% share of total imports.
Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -1.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Madagascar (+15.1%), Mozambique (+12.6%) and Botswana (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +15.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tanzania (-3.9%), Mauritius (-5.5%) and Angola (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mozambique (+6.2 p.p.), South Africa (+4.8 p.p.), Botswana (+3.3 p.p.) and Madagascar (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Angola saw its share reduced by -6.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brushes constituting parts of appliances in SADC, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 6.3% share.
In South Africa, appliance part brush imports contracted by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-9.6% per year) and Mozambique (+11.3% per year).
