Imports by Country
South Africa represented the largest importer of butan-1-ol (n-butyl alcohol) in SADC, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 58% of total imports in 2022. Tanzania (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Zambia (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 28% share of total imports. The following importers - Zimbabwe (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the butan-1-ol (n-butyl alcohol) imports, with a CAGR of +77.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+37.9%), Tanzania (+26.8%), Angola (+25.2%), Zambia (+17.2%) and Mauritius (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Zimbabwe (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+57 p.p.), Tanzania (+6.7 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+3.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Zambia, Mauritius and Zimbabwe saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -7.4% and -44.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported butan-1-ol (n-butyl alcohol) in SADC, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 6.8% share.
In South Africa, butan-1-ol (n-butyl alcohol) imports increased at an average annual rate of +43.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tanzania (+22.8% per year) and Angola (+29.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced curtailment. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
