In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the main exporter of calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) in SADC, mixing up 98% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) exports, with a CAGR of +19.6% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest dicalcium phosphate supplier in SADC.

In 2021, imports of calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) in SADC reduced notably to X tons, which is down by -37% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 87% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, dicalcium phosphate imports dropped to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +68.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) represented the key importer of calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate), mixing up 50% of total imports. Tanzania (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Mozambique (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Malawi (X tons) and Angola (X tons). All these countries together held near 45% share of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Angola (+50.7%), Malawi (+34.0%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+16.8%), Mozambique (+10.2%) and Tanzania (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +50.7% from 2012-2021. Zambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. South Africa (+26 p.p.), Angola (+5.6 p.p.) and Malawi (+5.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Tanzania and Zambia saw its share reduced by -10.1% and -10.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported calcium hydrogenorthophosphate (dicalcium phosphate) in SADC, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 10% share.

In South Africa, dicalcium phosphate imports increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mozambique (+9.8% per year) and Tanzania (+1.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 45% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malawi ($X per ton), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malawi (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
