The SADC market for calendars and trade advertising material declined modestly to $X in 2022, reducing by -1.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a mild curtailment. Exports in SADC
In 2022, shipments abroad of calendars and trade advertising material decreased by -6.1% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, calendars and trade advertising material exports declined to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +85.9% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 32%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the key exporter of calendars and trade advertising material, constituting 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X tons), mixing up a 31% share of total exports. Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -3.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (+55.0%) and Tanzania (+37.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +55.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Mozambique (+31 p.p.) and Tanzania (+3.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-32.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest calendars and trade advertising material supplying countries in SADC were South Africa ($X), Mozambique ($X) and Tanzania ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.
Mozambique, with a CAGR of +42.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Calendars And Trade Advertising Material
Imports in SADC
Calendars and trade advertising material imports contracted to X tons in 2022, which is down by -8.4% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, calendars and trade advertising material imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 35% of total imports. Namibia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Botswana (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Angola (X tons). All these countries together held near 38% share of total imports. Swaziland (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Lesotho (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Madagascar (X tons), Mauritius (X tons) and Malawi (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of calendars and trade advertising material. At the same time, Mozambique (+8.4%) and Lesotho (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2022. Madagascar, Swaziland and Zambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malawi (-1.2%), Angola (-4.1%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (-4.4%), Botswana (-5.9%), Mauritius (-8.3%), Namibia (-8.9%) and Tanzania (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+11 p.p.), Mozambique (+5.6 p.p.) and Lesotho (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Botswana (-2.4 p.p.), Namibia (-8.2 p.p.) and Tanzania (-9.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported calendars and trade advertising material in SADC, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lesotho ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 10% share.
In South Africa, calendars and trade advertising material imports declined by an average annual rate of -4.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lesotho (+8.9% per year) and Namibia (-3.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -10.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lesotho ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
