Madagascar (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Swaziland (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Tanzania (X tons), Mauritius (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) - each resulted at an 8% share of total imports.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of chain scoops, sliders, runners, end pieces and narrow strips. At the same time, Tanzania (+24.2%), Madagascar (+19.6%) and Angola (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +24.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Namibia (-6.2%), Mauritius (-8.6%) and Swaziland (-14.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+12 p.p.), Madagascar (+6.2 p.p.) and Tanzania (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Mauritius (-2.2 p.p.) and Swaziland (-13.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -3.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Madagascar (+20.1% per year) and Swaziland (-10.8% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
