Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant decrease. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chloride oxides of metal exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a dramatic descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 8.9%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons), mixing up a 5.4% share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -25.9% from 2012 to 2021. Zimbabwe (-9.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Zimbabwe (+4.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -4.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest chloride oxides of metal supplier in SADC, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 31% share of total exports.
In South Africa, chloride oxides of metal exports contracted by an average annual rate of -25.4% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -34.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 84% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while South Africa stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (+5.2%).

Imports in SADC
In 2021, purchases abroad of chloride oxides and chloride hydroxides of copper and other metals decreased by -12.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 133%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chloride oxides of metal imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
South Africa dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Angola (X tons), making up a 4.6% share of total imports. Zambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to chloride oxides of metal imports into South Africa stood at +28.4%. At the same time, Angola (+32.2%) and Zambia (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +32.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of South Africa (+24 p.p.) and Angola (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Zambia (-5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chloride oxides and chloride hydroxides of copper and other metals in SADC, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 12% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at +23.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (+32.6% per year) and Zambia (+5.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
