The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa prevails in non-metals structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons), generating a 9.6% share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -13.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Zambia (+9.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +9.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Zambia (+8.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest chlorides and phosphorus oxychloride and halides supplier in SADC, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports.
In South Africa, exports of chlorides and chloride oxides of phosphorus and halides and halide-oxides of non-metals declined by an average annual rate of -21.3% over the period from 2012-2021.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -58.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. Imports in SADC
For the third consecutive year, SADC recorded growth in overseas purchases of chlorides and chloride oxides of phosphorus and halides and halide-oxides of non-metals, which increased by 24% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 57%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Botswana (X tons) was the main importer of chlorides and chloride oxides of phosphorus and halides and halide-oxides of non-metals, making up 56% of total imports. South Africa (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Zimbabwe (7%). Mozambique (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Botswana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chlorides and chloride oxides of phosphorus and halides and halide-oxides of non-metals imports, with a CAGR of +23.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritius (+13.4%) and Mozambique (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+16.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
