In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 232%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2021.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of concentrated apple juice. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest concentrated apple juice supplier in SADC.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -4.9%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 7%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to -4.1% per year.

Concentrated apple juice imports soared to X tons in 2021, jumping by 49% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 56%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.4% against 2019 indices. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

South Africa dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 93% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Botswana (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) - each finished at a 3.7% share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Botswana (+39.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +39.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Namibia (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+8.3 p.p.) and Botswana (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated apple juice in SADC, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Botswana ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled +1.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Botswana (+37.1% per year) and Namibia (+1.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
