In 2022, shipments abroad of concrete-mixer lorries was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a mild setback. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The following exporters - Angola (X units), Namibia (X units), Malawi (X units) and Botswana (X units) - together made up 12% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +21.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest concrete-mixer lorry supplier in SADC, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Mozambique, with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (+20.1% per year) and Mozambique (+3.8% per year).

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malawi (+14.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X units of concrete-mixer lorries were imported in SADC; picking up by 777% on the year before. In general, imports enjoyed resilient growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

At the same time, Zimbabwe (+13.1%) and Tanzania (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa increased by +73 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X), South Africa ($X) and Zimbabwe ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 63% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +19.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -83.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
