Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +15.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Namibia (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho increased by +22, +11 and +9.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Botswana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cucumbers and gherkins in SADC, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Swaziland ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Lesotho, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Botswana stood at +5.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Swaziland (+13.4% per year) and Lesotho (+15.9% per year).

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 22%.
