Dichloromethane imports soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 33% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 64% of total imports. Zambia (X tons), Madagascar (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dichloromethane imports into South Africa stood at -1.9%. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+7.9%), Tanzania (+4.4%) and Zambia (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dichloromethane (methylene chloride) in SADC, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with an 8.3% share.
In South Africa, dichloromethane imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+10.1% per year) and Tanzania (+1.8% per year).
