As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

South Africa dominates imports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 77% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units), constituting a 4.6% share of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Tanzania (X units), Mozambique (X units), Zimbabwe (X units) and Angola (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mozambique (+22.2%) and Tanzania (+11.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +22.2% from 2012-2021. Botswana and Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Angola (-6.5%) and Zimbabwe (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+11 p.p.) and Mozambique (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Angola and Zimbabwe saw its share reduced by -1.9% and -4.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electric heating resistors in SADC, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 1.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Botswana, with a 1.7% share.

In South Africa, electric heating resistor imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-2.8% per year) and Botswana (+1.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 5.1% against the previous year.
