In 2021, after seven years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of electric radiators and convection heaters, when their volume increased by 111% to X units. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electric radiator exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. Mauritius (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric radiator exports from South Africa stood at -6.5%. At the same time, Mauritius (+67.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +67.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mauritius increased by +3.3 percentage points.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest electric radiator supplier in SADC, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mauritius ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

In South Africa, electric radiator exports decreased by an average annual rate of -9.8% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -7.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 2.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while South Africa stood at $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mauritius (-3.5%).

Imports in SADC

In 2021, approx. X units of electric radiators and convection heaters were imported in SADC; rising by 68% on the previous year. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +89.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, electric radiator imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +101.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X units) represented the main importer of electric radiators and convection heaters, creating 82% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Lesotho (X units), constituting a 13% share of total imports. Mozambique (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric radiator imports into South Africa stood at +9.9%. At the same time, Mozambique (+19.7%) and Lesotho (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +19.7% from 2012-2021. South Africa (+7.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Lesotho saw its share reduced by -6.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electric radiators and convection heaters in SADC, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with a 3.6% share of total imports.

In South Africa, electric radiator imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mozambique (+23.1% per year) and Lesotho (+2.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -12.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per unit), while Lesotho ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
