The total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 74%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, capacitor exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep downturn. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. Swaziland (X kg) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -12.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Swaziland (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +5.8% from 2012-2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest capacitor supplier in SADC, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a 3.7% share of total exports.
In South Africa, capacitor exports decreased by an average annual rate of -8.1% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 63% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($X per ton), while South Africa totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+5.0%).
Capacitor Imports
Imports in SADC
In 2021, overseas purchases of electrical capacitors were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, capacitor imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 89% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Tanzania (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - each recorded a 6.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to capacitor imports into South Africa stood at +13.7%. At the same time, Mozambique (+17.4%) and Tanzania (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Angola (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa increased by +16 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electrical capacitors in SADC, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with a 2.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (-5.9% per year) and Tanzania (+6.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -28.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 6.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
