In 2022, South Africa (X units) was the major exporter of electrical insulators of ceramics, achieving 58% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), constituting a 35% share of total exports. Swaziland (X units) and Namibia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2020 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Swaziland (with a CAGR of +72.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest ceramic electrical insulator supplier in SADC, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Swaziland, with a 2.2% share.
In South Africa, ceramic electrical insulator exports expanded at an average annual rate of +59.8% over the period from 2020-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4.9% per year) and Swaziland (+65.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a significant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+46.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Ceramic Electrical Insulator Imports
Imports in SADC
For the third consecutive year, SADC recorded growth in overseas purchases of electrical insulators of ceramics, which increased by 179% to X units in 2022. In general, imports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 738%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, ceramic electrical insulator imports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 59% of total imports. Mozambique (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tanzania (X units). All these countries together took approx. 35% share of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +15.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (+49.3%), Tanzania (+34.1%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +49.3% from 2012-2022. Mozambique (+20 p.p.) and Tanzania (+9.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -11.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electrical insulators of ceramics in SADC, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with an 11% share.
In South Africa, ceramic electrical insulator imports plunged by an average annual rate of -9.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mozambique (+17.1% per year) and Tanzania (+5.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -63.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a sharp decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 500%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (-10.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
