In value terms, battered fish fillet exports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 98% of total exports in 2021. Namibia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -6.1% from 2012 to 2021. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest battered fish fillet supplier in SADC, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Namibia ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports.
In South Africa, battered fish fillet exports contracted by an average annual rate of -5.4% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, imports of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs in SADC shrank to X tons, waning by -9.4% on 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 29%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, battered fish fillet imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) was the major importer of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs, committing 67% of total imports. Mauritius (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Angola (6.9%). Mozambique (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Democratic Republic of the Congo was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs imports, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mozambique (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Mauritius (-4.8%), Angola (-21.4%) and South Africa (-31.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The second position in the ranking was held by Mauritius ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +15.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (-4.4% per year) and Angola (-15.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
