In 2022, purchases abroad of frozen crustaceans increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen crustaceans imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa represented the largest importer of frozen crustaceans in SADC, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022.
