In 2021, shipments abroad of furnace burners, mechanical stokers, mechanical grates and mechanical ash dischargers decreased by -21.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 82%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, furnace burner exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 95%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Zambia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -3.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Zambia (+54.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +54.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Zambia increased by +2.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest furnace burner supplier in SADC, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zambia ($X), with a 1.9% share of total exports.
In South Africa, furnace burner exports shrank by an average annual rate of -8.0% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -9.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-5.2%).

Imports in SADC
In 2021, furnace burner imports in SADC skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 36% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, furnace burner imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 99%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Africa (X tons) and Angola (X tons) represented roughly 68% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), together constituting a 17% share of total imports. The following importers - Mauritius (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) - together made up 9.3% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Zimbabwe (with a CAGR of +24.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Angola ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 84% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Mauritius, which together accounted for a further 13%.
Among the main importing countries, Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +18.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
