Zimbabwe (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) represented roughly 67% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons), together generating a 24% share of total exports. Botswana (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Namibia ($X), Zimbabwe ($X) and Mozambique ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 72% share of total exports.
Mozambique, with a CAGR of +10.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -14% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of glass in the mass increased by 1.1% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +77.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 76%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
South Africa was the key importer of glass in the mass in SADC, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 78% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), mixing up a 22% share of total imports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of glass in the mass. At the same time, Tanzania (+30.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +30.4% from 2012-2022. While the share of Tanzania (+20 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-18.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glass in the mass in SADC, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -6.2%.
