South Africa dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), creating an 8.8% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Democratic Republic of the Congo increased by +5.3 percentage points.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest glycosides and vegetable alkaloids supplier in SADC, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled +7.7%.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 302% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while South Africa stood at $X per ton.

In 2021, approx. X tons of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids were imported in SADC; increasing by 15% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +55.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 67%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids imports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -24.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

South Africa (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons) dominates imports structure, together constituting 92% of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glycosides and vegetable alkaloids in SADC, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.

In South Africa, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Swaziland (+4.4% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+22.4% per year).
