The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, goat hides and skins exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Madagascar (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X) remains the largest goat hides and skins supplier in SADC, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 6.3% share.

In Zimbabwe, goat hides and skins exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zambia (+4.6% per year) and South Africa (-9.9% per year).

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 94% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed significant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while Swaziland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of goat or kid hides and skins imported in SADC dropped remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -30.7% compared with the previous year. In general, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 56%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, goat hides and skins imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a sharp decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 11%.
