The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, marble granules and powder exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Namibia (X tons) was the main exporter of granules, chippings and powder of marble, making up 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), achieving an 11% share of total exports. Angola (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to marble granules and powder exports from Namibia stood at -2.1%. At the same time, Angola (+78.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +78.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Africa (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Angola increased by +2.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Namibia ($X) remains the largest marble granules and powder supplier in SADC, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Angola ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
In Namibia, marble granules and powder exports contracted by an average annual rate of -6.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Angola (+89.4% per year) and South Africa (-8.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -21.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Granules, Chippings And Powder Of Marble
Imports in SADC
In 2021, supplies from abroad of granules, chippings and powder of marble decreased by -32.3% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, marble granules and powder imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of granules, chippings and powder of marble, namely South Africa, Angola and Botswana, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), committing a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Angola (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Angola ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granules, chippings and powder of marble in SADC, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with an 8% share.
In Angola, marble granules and powder imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-10.3% per year) and Tanzania (+4.8% per year).

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 73% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a notable increase. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
