In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the SADC hand-held blow pipe market, when its value increased by 7.9% to $X. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hand-held blow pipe production expanded notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 7.2%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC
In 2021, overseas shipments of hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding increased by 133% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 458%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hand-held blow pipe exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. Tanzania (X units) took a 5.2% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (4.6%).
Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +19.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+40.0%) and Tanzania (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +40.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of South Africa (+41 p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Tanzania (-6.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest hand-held blow pipe supplier in SADC, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.
In South Africa, hand-held blow pipe exports declined by an average annual rate of -7.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+33.3% per year) and Tanzania (+9.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -25.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 125% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
Hand-held blow pipe imports surged to X units in 2021, picking up by 81% compared with the year before. In general, imports showed a remarkable increase. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hand-held blow pipe imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X units) represented the largest importer of hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding, making up 42% of total imports. Botswana (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Angola (X units) and Zimbabwe (X units). All these countries together took near 43% share of total imports. Mozambique (X units), Madagascar (X units) and Seychelles (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand-held blow pipe imports into South Africa stood at +25.8%. At the same time, Seychelles (+30.1%), Botswana (+25.4%), Zimbabwe (+8.0%) and Angola (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Seychelles emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +30.1% from 2012-2021. Madagascar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mozambique (-10.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+33 p.p.) and Botswana (+16 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Madagascar and Mozambique saw its share reduced by -2.2% and -14.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding in SADC, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 4.4% share.
In South Africa, hand-held blow pipe imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (+5.9% per year) and Zimbabwe (+8.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -23.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
