In 2022, the SADC hydrazine and hydroxylamine market decreased by -1.2% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total consumption indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. In 2022, hydrazine and hydroxylamine exports in SADC dropped markedly to X tons, which is down by -84.8% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 6,699% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, hydrazine and hydroxylamine exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 4,287% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the major exporter of hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their inorganic salts in SADC, generating 100% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their inorganic salts exports, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012 to 2022. South Africa (+45 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest hydrazine and hydroxylamine supplier in SADC.

Imports in SADC

In 2022, supplies from abroad of hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their inorganic salts was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hydrazine and hydroxylamine imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a prominent increase. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the key importer of hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their inorganic salts in SADC, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 66% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons), together achieving a 29% share of total imports. Mauritius (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their inorganic salts. At the same time, Lesotho (+46.7%), Zimbabwe (+16.4%) and Angola (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +46.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mauritius (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Zimbabwe (+12 p.p.), Lesotho (+5.1 p.p.) and Angola (+4.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa and Mauritius saw its share reduced by -4.8% and -7.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their inorganic salts in SADC, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with an 11% share.

In South Africa, hydrazine and hydroxylamine imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Zimbabwe (+17.1% per year) and Angola (+3.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
