While the share of Angola (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest hydrogen chloride supplier in SADC, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at -5.4%.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 97% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Tanzania (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Namibia (5.6%). The following importers - Mauritius (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) imports, with a CAGR of +71.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Namibia (+19.9%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+8.4%), Mauritius (+5.3%) and Tanzania (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Zimbabwe (-1.9%) and Angola (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+63 p.p.) and Namibia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Democratic Republic of the Congo (-2.3 p.p.), Mauritius (-5.2 p.p.), Zimbabwe (-11 p.p.), Angola (-14 p.p.) and Tanzania (-23.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) in SADC, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Angola ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled +38.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Angola (-4.5% per year) and Tanzania (-1.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 15% against the previous year.
