The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +57.9% against 2013 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 22%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in SADC
In 2021, approx. X tons of industrial fatty alcohols were exported in SADC; waning by -2.6% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa (X tons) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2021.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial fatty alcohols exports, with a CAGR of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest industrial fatty alcohols supplier in SADC.
In South Africa, industrial fatty alcohols exports decreased by an average annual rate of -7.8% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

Imports in SADC
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of industrial fatty alcohols, when their volume decreased by -29.2% to X tons. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols imports contracted to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 32%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 64% of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Tanzania (8.3%). Angola (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of industrial fatty alcohols. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+28.1%) and Tanzania (+11.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +28.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Angola (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Democratic Republic of the Congo (+20 p.p.) and Tanzania (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -23.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial fatty alcohols in SADC, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+22.5% per year) and Tanzania (+4.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 33% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
