As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, injection-moulding machine exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 137%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the key exporter of injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics in SADC, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Malawi (X units), constituting a 16% share of total exports. Zimbabwe (X units), Swaziland (X units), Zambia (X units), Madagascar (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Namibia (X units) took a little share of total exports.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics exports, with a CAGR of +10.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Malawi (+7.2%) and Zimbabwe (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Zambia (-2.2%), Tanzania (-2.8%), Madagascar (-5.0%) and Swaziland (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest injection-moulding machine supplying countries in SADC were Swaziland ($X), South Africa ($X) and Malawi ($X), together comprising 86% of total exports. Zambia, Tanzania, Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Namibia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

Zimbabwe, with a CAGR of +22.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, declining by -39.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 149%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (+14.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics increased by 0.8% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 764% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, injection-moulding machine imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X units) represented the main importer of injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics, achieving 49% of total imports. Tanzania (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Mozambique (X units) and Zambia (X units). All these countries together held approx. 41% share of total imports. The following importers - Angola (X units) and Zimbabwe (X units) - each resulted at a 5.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +16.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics in SADC, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Zambia, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -1.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (+6.1% per year) and Zambia (+24.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -12.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 479% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
