As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
South Africa represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 57% of total exports. Botswana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Zambia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tanzania (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) - each reached a 3.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wire and cable exports from South Africa stood at -1.3%. At the same time, Tanzania (+25.1%) and Botswana (+19.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +25.1% from 2012-2021. Zimbabwe experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Zambia (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Botswana and Tanzania increased by +22 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Botswana ($X) and Zambia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 95% of total exports. Tanzania and Zimbabwe lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 2.7%.
Tanzania, with a CAGR of +27.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of insulated wire and cable imported in SADC soared to X tons, rising by 104% compared with the previous year. In general, imports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mozambique (X tons) represented the largest importer of insulated wire and cable, creating 50% of total imports. South Africa (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Angola (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 37% share of total imports. Botswana (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Mozambique was also the fastest-growing in terms of the insulated wire and cable imports, with a CAGR of +42.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+7.9%), South Africa (+3.7%) and Botswana (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Tanzania and Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Angola (-8.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mozambique (+45 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa and Angola saw its share reduced by -2%, -2.4%, -4.8%, -9.7% and -17.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported insulated wire and cable in SADC, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 10% share.
In South Africa, wire and cable imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+9.2% per year) and Angola (-7.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -28.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
