Exports by Country
Tanzania represented the major exporter of insulating board in SADC, with the volume of exports finishing at X cubic meters, which was near 61% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X cubic meters), committing a 37% share of total exports. Namibia (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +115.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Tanzania ($X), South Africa ($X) and Namibia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 99% share of total exports.
Namibia, with a CAGR of +131.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per cubic meter, falling by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per cubic meter), while Tanzania ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+44.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in SADC
Insulating board imports stood at X cubic meters in 2022, with an increase of 5.6% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 125%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, insulating board imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 69%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X cubic meters) was the major importer of insulating board, mixing up 44% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Angola (X cubic meters), Namibia (X cubic meters) and Tanzania (X cubic meters), together comprising a 36% share of total imports. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X cubic meters), Zimbabwe (X cubic meters) and Mauritius (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to insulating board imports into South Africa stood at +12.8%. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+54.1%) and Angola (+20.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +54.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Zimbabwe (-6.6%), Namibia (-11.5%), Tanzania (-18.4%) and Mauritius (-22.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Angola and Democratic Republic of the Congo increased by +36, +15 and +4.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Angola ($X) and Namibia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 72% of total imports. Mauritius, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zimbabwe lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
Among the main importing countries, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +48.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per cubic meter), while Namibia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
