Metal Stud-Link Chain Market Size in SADC

The SADC metal stud-link chain market soared to $X in 2021, growing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal stud-link chain production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -32.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 46%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in SADC

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of iron/steel stud-link chain, when their volume increased by 2.8% to X tons. In general, exports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 297% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal stud-link chain exports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 189%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) was the main exporter of iron/steel stud-link chain, comprising 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Namibia (X tons), comprising a 30% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Namibia (+22.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +22.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Namibia (+7.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-4.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest metal stud-link chain supplier in SADC, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.

In South Africa, metal stud-link chain exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.9% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Namibia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-3.4%).

Imports in SADC

In 2021, approx. X tons of iron/steel stud-link chain were imported in SADC; with an increase of 14% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metal stud-link chain imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 46% of total imports. Angola (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons) and Namibia (X tons). All these countries together held near 44% share of total imports. Madagascar (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Madagascar (with a CAGR of +33.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest metal stud-link chain importing markets in SADC were South Africa ($X), Tanzania ($X) and Angola ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Madagascar, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Democratic Republic of the Congo, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Madagascar, with a CAGR of +36.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
