Exports in SADC
For the fourth consecutive year, SADC recorded decline in shipments abroad of loudspeakers (not in enclosure), which decreased by -10.9% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,446% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-enclosed loudspeakers exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -37.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 44%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Namibia (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented roughly 66% of total exports in 2021. Seychelles (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Angola (10%) and Tanzania (5.7%). The following exporters - Mauritius (X units) and Zambia (X units) - each recorded a 4.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Angola (with a CAGR of +90.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest non-enclosed loudspeakers supplier in SADC, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Seychelles ($X), with a 2.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Mauritius, with a 0.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at +2.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Seychelles (+62.0% per year) and Mauritius (-6.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 365% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
In 2021, overseas purchases of loudspeakers (not in enclosure) decreased by -2.3% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 119%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-enclosed loudspeakers imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X units) and Tanzania (X units), together constituting a 29% share of total imports. Madagascar (X units), Seychelles (X units), Namibia (X units) and Lesotho (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Seychelles (+19.2%) and Madagascar (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Seychelles emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +19.2% from 2012-2021. Zambia, Tanzania and Lesotho experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Namibia (-27.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+38 p.p.), Zambia (+12 p.p.), Tanzania (+7.8 p.p.), Madagascar (+3 p.p.) and Seychelles (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Namibia (-12.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported loudspeakers (not in enclosure) in SADC, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 6.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 2.7% share.
In South Africa, non-enclosed loudspeakers imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (-1.5% per year) and Namibia (-3.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 33% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 108%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Zambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+34.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
