Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, machine-tool for drilling exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 175%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 52% of total exports. Tanzania (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Swaziland (X units) and Angola (X units). All these countries together held near 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Botswana (X units) and Zambia (X units) - together made up 7.2% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to machine-tool for drilling exports from South Africa stood at -7.7%. At the same time, Swaziland (+46.9%), Angola (+33.1%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+23.9%) and Tanzania (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +46.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Botswana (-11.3%) and Zambia (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest machine-tool for drilling supplier in SADC, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Zambia, with an 8.6% share.
In South Africa, machine-tool for drilling exports decreased by an average annual rate of -15.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (-10.9% per year) and Zambia (-11.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -13.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 234% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per unit), while Swaziland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in SADC
In 2022, machine-tool for drilling imports in SADC reduced markedly to X units, falling by -31.9% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 237%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, machine-tool for drilling imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. In value terms, South Africa ($X), Botswana ($X) and Angola ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 76% of total imports. Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho and Mauritius lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.3%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +11.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 227% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per unit), while Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
