In 2021, the SADC machine-tool for working wood market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

South Africa prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X tons), making up a 4.8% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 77% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Mozambique amounted to $X per ton.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of machine-tools for working wood, when their volume increased by 33% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
