In value terms, panel display manufacturing machine exports declined modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 433% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The shipments of the one major exporters of machines for the manufacture of flat panel displays, namely South Africa, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machines for the manufacture of flat panel displays exports, with a CAGR of -4.4% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of South Africa (+10 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest panel display manufacturing machine supplier in SADC.

As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, panel display manufacturing machine imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 152%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Malawi (X units) and Namibia (X units) - each finished at a 3.1% share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -12.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Namibia (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of +9.1% from 2012-2021. Malawi experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Namibia (+1.5 p.p.) and Malawi (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -4.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest panel display manufacturing machine importing markets in SADC were Namibia ($X), South Africa ($X) and Malawi ($X), with a combined 51% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Namibia, with a CAGR of +43.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -29.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 1,467%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+56.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
