In value terms, marine GPS navigator exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 134%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X units) represented the key exporter of marine or river navigation instruments and appliances, mixing up 70% of total exports. Namibia (X units) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Seychelles (7.6%). The following exporters - Angola (X units) and Mozambique (X units) - each resulted at a 3.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to marine GPS navigator exports from South Africa stood at -52.3%. At the same time, Angola (+20.5%) and Namibia (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Angola emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Seychelles (-10.1%) and Mozambique (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Namibia (+17 p.p.), Seychelles (+7.6 p.p.), Angola (+2.2 p.p.) and Mozambique (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -29.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest marine GPS navigator supplier in SADC, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Namibia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Seychelles, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -14.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Namibia (+0.3% per year) and Seychelles (-9.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -18.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 12,794%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in South Africa ($X per unit) and Namibia ($X per unit), while Seychelles ($X per unit) and Mozambique ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+79.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
In 2021, purchases abroad of marine or river navigation instruments and appliances was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a precipitous setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 63%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, marine GPS navigator imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Africa (X units) and Angola (X units) prevails in imports structure, together constituting 73% of total imports. Mozambique (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.8% share, followed by Namibia (7.8%). Tanzania (X units) and Seychelles (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Angola (with a CAGR of +5.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Angola ($X) and Namibia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 87% of total imports.
Angola, with a CAGR of +9.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 10,062%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
