In value terms, mattress support exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, South Africa (X units) represented the key exporter of mattress supports in SADC, creating 99% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mattress supports exports, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012 to 2021. In value terms, mattress support imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 0.6%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Botswana dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 70% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X units), mixing up a 4.9% share of total imports. South Africa (X units), Namibia (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Tanzania (X units), Angola (X units) and Swaziland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Botswana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mattress supports in SADC, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Botswana totaled -1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (-3.5% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+5.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 8.6%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per unit), while Zimbabwe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
