Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, meat and poultry exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) represented the major exporter of meat and poultry, achieving X% of total exports. Namibia (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tanzania (X%) and Zambia (X%). Botswana (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to meat and poultry exports from South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Zambia (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, meat and poultry imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) and Angola (X tons) represented the key importer of meat and poultry in SADC, constituting X% of total import. It was distantly followed by Zambia (X tons), making up a X% share of total imports. Namibia (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Comoros (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Zambia (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
