The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, meat exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the major exporter of meat, committing X% of total exports. Tanzania (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Namibia (X%) and Botswana (X%). Zambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to meat exports from South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Zambia (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mozambique, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per ton), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
