The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 41%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 82% of total exports in 2022. Tanzania (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Malawi (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal cutting shear exports from South Africa stood at -1.8%. At the same time, Tanzania (+23.0%), Zambia (+19.7%) and Botswana (+18.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012-2022. In South Africa, metal cutting shear exports plunged by an average annual rate of -4.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Botswana (+19.0% per year) and Namibia (-17.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, waning by -19.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 61%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malawi (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
In 2022, metal cutting shear imports in SADC dropped notably to X tons, declining by -18.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, metal cutting shear imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the main importer of metal cutting shears and similar hand tools, committing 40% of total imports. Zimbabwe (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by Tanzania (11%) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (5.9%). The following importers - Namibia (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Malawi (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Malawi (with a CAGR of +24.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported metal cutting shears and similar hand tools in SADC, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 12% share.
In South Africa, metal cutting shear imports shrank by an average annual rate of -4.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (-2.5% per year) and Zimbabwe (+15.8% per year).
