Mixtures Of Slag Market Size in SADC

The SADC mixtures of slag market expanded to $X in 2021, with an increase of 4.3% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by 6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Mixtures Of Slag Production in SADC

In value terms, mixtures of slag production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 5.8%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of mixtures of slag increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 97%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mixtures of slag exports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Lesotho (X tons) was the main exporter of mixtures of slag, creating 64% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 29% share, followed by Namibia (6.7%).

Exports from Lesotho decreased at an average annual rate of -14.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Namibia (+19.1%) and South Africa (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +19.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa and Namibia increased by +22 and +6.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Namibia ($X) and Lesotho ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 99.9% of total exports.

Namibia, with a CAGR of +39.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 192%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (+17.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Mixtures Of Slag Imports

Imports in SADC

Mixtures of slag imports expanded remarkably to X tons in 2021, surging by 11% on 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 306% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mixtures of slag imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 180% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Swaziland (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together comprising 92% of total imports. The following importers - Tanzania (X kg) and South Africa (X kg) - each accounted for a 5.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Swaziland (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mixtures of slag in SADC, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Swaziland ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +12.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Swaziland (+13.8% per year) and South Africa (-57.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 1,345%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
